The client is a highly specialised, premier medical university providing training and medical research

The Brief
A number of universities and institutes are developing a new area of genetic research. Our client required a dedicated specialised laboratory to enable them to carry out this research within their university. QBS were appointed to deliver a turnkey design and build project The client had identified an existing vacant room within their facility for the location of the new laboratory which had challenges in terms of designing and installing the HVAC services. The performance specification for the laboratory was in accordance with a Government Code of Practice which specified temperature, humidity and air volume changes with close control and monitoring for each separate zone. The CoP also specified circadian lighting which required a specialised lighting control system. QBS provided the client with a single source, Turnkey, Design and Build solution including project management. QBS engaged with all stake holders and specialist equipment suppliers at the concept phase of the project developing the performance specification and coordinating the services prior to implementation.
Works Included

QBS constructed and installed a bespoke fit out and HVAC services project in accordance with the CoP, meeting the client’s requirements. The implementation of a robust Integrated System Testing regime demonstrated to the client and their representatives the compliance of the systems and provided the necessary documentation and record information for the government inspection and auditing for certification.

The project was challenging due to the specialised requirements of the CoP and it was a first for the client stake holders and QBS with a steep learning curve. The completed project was handed over with no defects and to an exceptionally high quality.
